Due to the fact that we are working on both the Earth History final project AND science fair, I am amending the due date for the Science Fair Experimental Design.

Green Team Building Project!

Hi everyone!

Finally things have come together for us to do a garden building/improvement project. On Wednesday morning 11/23 the entire Green Team, split into work groups, will be working on our garden area: spreading mulch and compost, building and weatherproofing raised beds, etc. We could use help from families, including:

1) sending in labeled cordless drills and shovels on that day

2) picking up 2 yards of donated wood chips from Lashway Lumber and delivering it here

3) finding a donation of 3-4 yards compost and delivering it here

HOW A SEDIMENTARY ROCK GETS MADE

1. Weathering breaks big rocks into smaller pieces

2. Erosion carries the pieces somewhere

3. Deposition puts pieces down in a BASIN

4. Sediment gets cemented by a matrix (usually in water)

Advantages of mass production:

makes a lot of the same product

always the same

costs consumer less

Disadvantages of mass production:

big problems with child labor, health, environment, etc.

quality issues

Advantages of custom production:

handmade, careful work

you make decisions about what's in it, how it works

Disadvantages of custom:

do you have the skill to produce it?

usually more expensive

no interchangeable parts
